Jim Freeman — Inside the Unabomber's Cabin | Part 2

Inside the Unabomber's cabin, FBI agents found the evidence that closed America's longest manhunt.

Retired FBI Special Agent in Charge Jim Freeman returns for Part 2, taking us inside the cabin outside Lincoln, Montana, where Ted Kaczynski lived for years undetected. Under portable generator light, agents found a live bomb hidden under his bed, the typewriter used to type his 35,000-word manifesto, and years of journals. (Part 1 linked below.)

Freeman walks through the standoff over the search warrant, just how close Kaczynski had come to killing again, and the journal entries where Kaczynski described his own motives — including a chilling detail about a bomb rigged to kill whoever opened it if it went undelivered.

The physical evidence collected in that cabin became the ironclad case that led to Kaczynski's guilty plea on all counts. Freeman also reflects on the FBI culture that made the capture possible, and on Terry Turchie and Max Noel, the agents who helped him close a case that ran for 17 years.
